JUNE 2014 UPDATE
FROM SIERRA LEONE:
“Praise [be]
is to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in the
heavenly realms with every spiritual blessing in Christ. For he chose us in him
before the creation of the world to be Holy and blameless in his sight. In love
he predestined us to be adopted as his sons through Jesus Christ, in accordance
with his pleasure and will. To the praise of his glorious grace, which he has
freely given us in the one he loves…..
Eph.1:3-6. [NIV].
Welcome to
the six Month of the year, we give thanks to God Almighty for his grace, in the
first half of the year 2014. A lot of blessings we have experienced in this
first half of the year. Despite the tensions and challenges of extremist
[terrorists] in Nigeria, we are grateful for the level of tolerance we have
here in Sierra Leone. Towards the end of last Month, the health officials in
Sierra Leone did confirmed Forty six death of Ebola Virus, in one of the districts
of the Country.[ Kailahun] though it’s very far in the eastern part of the
country, while we are in the North. Our Faith is on the Lord and we trust God
that people will adhere to the advice of health workers so that the virus will
not spread to other parts of the country. Ebola was first reported in March in
Guinea and later Liberia. All these countries share boarder to Sierra Leone to
the North, east and southern part. Please pray for us and the people of Sierra
Leone including our neighboring countries that this virus will be control.
In our office,
we have introduced a safe measure of hand washing, for both staff and visitors
to the office.
SYNOD MEETING: The first Synod meeting to be lead by
the National Leaders was held on May 27 and 28 here in Kabala. During the meeting,
a New Vice President was elected to replace the former one who was appointed to
be the General Secretary. The new Vice president is Pastor Mathias Gabriel of
the CRC BO church. With his election, it gives the church an inclusive nature
in the leadership of the church. Bo is in the South of Sierra Leone. Also
during the meeting, Rosetta F Sesay was elected to be one of the members of the
Board of Trustee. The First Female to be involved in the National Leadership of
the young Church.
During the meeting,
it was reported that based on the strategic plan of the church which was
developed in 2012, the Church pledged that they were going to raised at least
ten Million Leones [about. $2500] towards the development of their national
office. [Multipurpose]. Glory is to God, they are now able to raised nine
million Leones, which they have started molding cement blocks towards the
project. They now have up to 1200 blocks. To be used for the building. This is
a good sign of the people trying to reduce over dependent on oversea funding of
all their programs. It is hope that our donors will see this as a good effort
by the people and continue to give so that the structure can be build.
RAIN AND STORM:”Of course we need the rain, but we do
not like the storm” said one woman whose house was destroyed recently in Yarah
village. It was a pitiful sight for poor Widow Siloe Kabbah. Beside Siloe, the CRC church in Yarah was not
also spare by the strong storm that came with heavy down pour on the night of
May. 22. In all we give thanks to God for now life was lost. Even though
properties were destroyed, but life spared.
Not only in
Yarah that we saw this, but it also happened in Nanfayi, But we thank God , the
brethren of Smithers CRC in Canada has come to their rescue, Nanfayi it was
their school that was washed down, but it’s being rebuild and plastered by the
help of Smithers CRC.
